We’re finally leaving, embarking on our year-long trip around Asia, and boy, am I excited!
Our starting point is the small town on the Côte d’Azur, where Alex’s parent’s live and where we’ve been preparing our depart. We’re taking the local train to Ventimiglia, the first Italian town on the French border. From Ventimiglia we are taking the train to Milan, which is about 4 hours long. Having already visited Milan a couple of times, we will be spending the night at Lake Como, which is another hour train ride from Milan.
After Milan and Lake Como, we are traveling to Vienna. Originally, we wanted to take the NightJet OBB overnight train. Unfortunately, it is currently under construction at our time of travel (01/10/2025) and so we are taking a night bus instead! 🥲
While I am not excited about the 12 hour over night bus ride, I am proud that we chose this option over a plane ride that would have cost the same, if not cheaper. The flight from Milan to Vienna would emit around 0.2111 per person in comparison to the bus ride, which will emit around 0.0242 t2 per person.
After spending a couple of days in Vienna, we’re going straight to Serbia (again, by night bus). We will spend a couple more nights in Belgrade before going to our final European destination: Sofia, Bulgaria.
After 10 days of trains, buses and exploring European cities, we are flying to Singapore with a layover in Doha. Let the adventures begin!

- Based on FlixBus emission calculations that 27.8 (g CO2 e/ passenger km), multiplied by 871km distance from Milan to Vienna. ↩︎
