Here is everything you need to know about crossing the land border between Pleiku, Vietnam at Ban Lung, Cambodia at the Le Tanh/Oyadav Border in 2026.
Traveling from Pleiku Ban Lung is not very well documented online – but we just crossed the Le Tanh Border going both ways in the past two weeks and can answer all of your questions. The journey takes around 4 hours including border checks and is pretty easy and straightforward.
Pleiku, Vietnam to Ban Lung, Cambodia
I had read various online claims saying you had to take several buses, negotiate with taxis once crossing, and figure out a bunch of complicated things – but we were able to book a direct van that picked us up from our hotel and dropped us off in the center of Ban Lung. We booked the van through Elisa Hotel. Our room was super affordable, clean and comfortable – plus they booked the van for us. On our way back we spent the night at a home stay further away from the center, who wasn’t able to help us in booking any transportation, so it’s definitely something to look for when booking your stay.
We got picked up from our hotel at 8:30 am and arrived in Ban Lung at noon. We were asked if we preferred morning or afternoon, but I can’t confirm that there is an afternoon van since we chose the one in the morning. The van was nice, comfy, had AC and even WiFi! We paid 400,000 VND per person, or $15.
The border crossing has a lot of stops and checks, but it is the first time that our transport actually drove us across and we didn’t have to switch buses once arriving in the next country. There are at least two checks on each side, and you have to take your bags out and scan them on the Vietnamese side, but we had no issues with anything (despite the fact that we carry a pocket knife).
We didn’t get charged any extra fees, there weren’t a lot of people and everything went smoothly. We got our Cambodian Visa On Arrival, paying $30 each. We arrived in the ‘center’ of Ban Lung, near the VET office. As soon as our van arrived, a couple of TukTuks came to offer rides to our hotel. The going price seems to be 10,000 KHR per one way journey (about 10 minutes). We stayed at Phum Khmer Resort, which has a gorgeous property and pool. The owner also runs his own NGO helping to provide education to rural children in the area.

Ban Lung, Cambodia to Pleiku, Vietnam
For crossing into Vietnam from Cambodia, we paid the exact same price except in KHR: 60,000 KHR per person, or $15. The van we took this time was slightly less fancy, but it still had AC and WiFi (only activated once we made it into Vietnam). On our way back into Ban Lung we stayed at a hotel in the center of town, who wasn’t able to help us book the transfer but we were able to find the ‘office’ in town, at this location.
We were able to book two tickets for the following morning, using our translate app and hand gestures. This time they said the only departure times were in the morning, at 6 am, 6:30 am or 7 am. We chose the 7 am departure and messaged our hotel name to the drive over Messenger. We paid ahead of time and crossed our fingers that someone would actually show up after our early morning alarm. Sure enough, at about 7:15 am the van pulled up right to our hotel and off we went.
We had eVisas for Vietnam and were able to use them with absolutely no issue at the Le Tanh Border. The updated list is available on the official eVisa website, once you click through to request the visa. Make sure to fill out everything thoroughly and double-check it’s all correct, because they are known for being strict. We didn’t have any issues and received our approval about 4 days after requesting. We did not print them out for the border crossing and had no issues showing them on our phones.
Once arriving back in Pleiku, the van dropped us off at our home stay despite it being a 15 minute drive from the center, but I’m not sure if that’s the norm or if they were just being friendly. Grab does work in Pleiku, and I would recommend that rather than trusting a local cab like we did the first time, and losing a bag that we left behind and having no means of contacting him.
